Fresh install of Linux - Want to keep existing RAID array

I currently have an Amahi system with Fedora 10, but need to do a fresh install of Fedora 12. My computer has a system disk, plus two drives configured in a RAID-1 setup. The RAID-1 drive contains only user documents like photos, so I do not want to lose this. When I do the fresh install, I'm planning on having both RAID drives pulled. Then, once linux is installed, plugging them back in and re-creating the RAID. My first question is: Does that sound like a good way to do things?

My second question: How do I recreate the RAID once Fedora 12 is set up? I do not want to run any risk of losing data since these drives contain my only copies of the data. Thanks!

I don't think it can hurt. May work perfectly or need some edit. A backup plan is usually better than what you are trying to do. Two three or more copies never seem to hurt.

What kind of raid are we talking about anyway? We'd need a lot of info.

Thanks jefro. What kind of info would you need? I'm away from my system right now so I don't have too many details, but I can tell you it's two 320 gig drives configured as a mirrored RAID-1. You might need to tell me how to check for the info you want, if there's certain software commands for it; I'll be sure to post it later. Thanks.

Might be simple enough to boot to a live cd and see if the cd can read your data correctly. It so then just do what you wanted to try in the first place. If not then we may need to look into it more.

I did the live CD, and it worked. So, I installed Fedora 12, and it's still working. Keeping my fingers crossed. It's definitely a software raid, and not a raid created from the BIOS. So I find it odd that Fedora picked up on it, but I'm not complaining. Hopefully I won't be coming back here for more help... Thanks again jefro!
