Exclamation freetds to access SQL server from linux client

As all of you are aware, i am trying to access windows server with a linux client. I was googling and I found freetds which provides ODBC drivers to linux clients to access SQL server in Windows system.
Did anyone worked on it?
I am trying to configure it. If anyone could share their valuable experience with freetds, that would definitely help me.
thank you.

I have used freetds to link OpenOffice via ODBC to tables on an MS-SQL 2000 server.

Assuming the MS-SQL server name is server.example.com and the database name is testdb

the freetds.conf entry ...
Code:
[server]
        host = server.example.com
        port = 1433
        tds version = 8.0
and the odbc.ini
Code:
[testdbDsn]
Driver                  = /usr/lib/libtdsodbc.so
Description              = MS-SQL Server
Trace                    = No
Servername               = server
Database                 = testdb
Note the bold 'server' entry in both config files, they have to match. The linux client should be able to access this data source via the DSN name testdbDsn.

P.S. I have only ever used this for reading data from tables, never for writing or updating tables, use at your own risk.

HTH

Mad.
