FreeTDS Install Problem

I'm trying to install freeTDS on Debian Linux.

When I issue the following command

./configure --prefix=/usr/local/freetds

I get the following error:

checking for C compiler default output... configure: error: C compiler cannot create executables

We are running as root and have created the directory /usr/loca/freetds

Thanks for any and all help.

OK - I got the install to work. Had to install GNU C and C++.

Now I have FreeTDS working through DBD:Sybase, except that I get the following error/warning each time it runs:

cs_config(CS_LOC_PROP) failed at /usr/lib/perl/5.8/ line 245.

I've read that it's a warning and I can ignore it - but does anyone know how to just turn it off or get it to not show???
