freepops

ok I installed freepops and I have 3 problems

1.How can I perminently switch the port to 2001 instead of doing "-p 2001" everytime I log in.

2. How can I make freepops auto start with thought going to the console eveytime I log in

3. I am having trouble getting my hotmail account to login for some reason it will not connect.I have yahoo mail and that is working fine. I am only retreving mail from these account. (Using Kmail)

The answers to 1 and 2 depend on each other - ie, you have to do both things to accomplish what you want to do.

To have freepops start as a service, as root:

Code:
chkconfig --add freepops
Then, the command:

Code:
chkconfig --list freepops
should give you this:

Code:
freepops 0:off 1:off 2:off 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off
To permanently change the port to 2001, as root:

gedit /etc/sysconfig/freepops (if it's an empty file, then try /etc/defaults/freepops) and change the port to 2001, save and exit.

To start freepops now without rebooting, as root:

service freepops start

As far as your hotmail issues are concerned, it looks like you're not alone (misery loves company.)

If you go to the forums at freepops.org and search "hotmail linux", you'll see about a thousand posts from people who have issues. I don't use hotmail myself, so I can't really help you, but on a cursory glance it appears that it may be an issue with SSL. So good luck with that aspect.

cheers,
