Free XDMCP client for windows?
 

Hello... I searched around on google, there isn't much information on XDMCP clients for windows.

What I want is a freeware based XDMCP client that basically does what X-WIN32 does.

Is there any free alternative to these expensive XDMCP software programs?


I've considered VNC, it's not exactly what I'm looking for.

I want to use the XDMCP feature in xwindows and connect to the xwindow enviroment through my windows box.

SURELY there would be a gnu, open source, or even free and closed source version of a program like this for Windows?

Nobody has *ever* heard of anything but those expensive ones for windows??

after instalation you need to go to start > program files > xming > xlaunch

MobaXTerm is free, portable, & has the ability to connect via XDMCP with no effort at all (unless u consider typing an IP effort). There's no real setup, and no configuration involved at all on the client side.

In X windows they reverse the client and server names. A server is what we would think of as a remote unit.

Do you mean to have a xdmcp chooser?

For a server on windows xming is good if you have the configured fonts both ends.

If you want you can try an old live cd that is not really a live cd at all but a cd that can be used on a windows system to try your setup. A bit old. http://xlivecd.indiana.edu/

I'm referring to having an X server running on the windows box & displaying a full desktop -or- single application from the *nix box utilizing the X server running on windows. Regardless of what you term it, it's free, tiny, lightweight, requires no setup at all. Running the X server is automatic, but controlled via a single button on/off. And the act of connecting to the *nix box involved clicking a button and inputting an IP. Or you can interface directly with the CLI which includes much of the Cygwin project's tools.

I've tried NX,freenx & 2x. MobaXterm to me is just so much easier it's ridiculous.
