free open source online event registration and management program

I am looking for a free open source online event registration and management program for paid and free events.
http://civicrm.org/civievent seems ok.
Had anyone used it?
Are there other choices?

I would expect to find some enterprising entrepreneur which would offer "event management" including (among other things) event registration services.

Keep an open mind: is procuring this software, setting it up, running it yourself etcetera really ... necessary, or best? Frankly I doubt it. People who are running music shows do not print their own tickets, do they? Events are a huge industry...

(BTW: "event registration" does not have to be "free" .. and it certainly won't be. For any event, registration management expense is a straightforward probably-fixed cost. It will be budgeted-for, and flawless success in the registration process is of course far more important than the exact dollar-amount of that cost. "You gets what you pays for." Don't be pennywise with such things.)

I am a software designer helping a non-profit organization to setup its event registration. I have a full time job so I am willing to volunteer my time during weekends to help them. I am asking for comments or suggestions for evaluation of an existing free open source online event registration and management program. The program I am thinking of has commercial support too.
