Question formating

40 gig hdd with 2 partition. first = vfat32 (xp),
second = vfat (win2000)
remainder (12 gig) = free space or unallocated
(hdd was all vfat (xp) removed partition to setup this.
start to install RedHat 9 on free space.
at automatic partition I choose the free space.
returns error saying: no /root picked. and doesn't
partiton. cant go any farther.
I then try manuel partition. pick free space
and it returns error: can't allocate space.
What I'm I doing wrong and please tell
how to correct this.
objective is to have all three os system
on this one harddrive.
thanks

1. choose manual partitioning....

2. Now select the free space and click the button 'new'

3. select 'Swap' as the mount point and give double the amount of your RAM as size of SWAP partition. file system type must be set to 'SWAP'

4. Again select 'new' . This time select ' / ' as the mount point and allocate the remaining space to this partition with file system type set to ' ext3 '.

5. Your job is done....go ahead and install RedHat on your system.
