format of existing partition


HI

HOw to make format of existing partition,
i had used mke2fs /dev/hdb2 it is saying already it is mounted and also saying linux e2fs filesystem on the specified device.

hoping UR reply on this

Mounted filesystem(s) are usually assumed to be in use - unmount it to format it.
If you can't, use a liveCD.
