format hard disk with linux

hello,
i need to format an hard disk with linux redhat

i don't know what kind of operting system i will install then...

hao can i do?

You can format hard disk in linux using cfdisk, look at the article Using cfdisk to partition your harddisk

If you will install a distro in that space, let the install program partition and format the drive.

You can also boot up using a Live CD -- like Knoppix and then use QTParted, graphical method and much easier to use, or you can use good old "fdisk"
