fork problem with new compieled kernel

hi,

if i try to start a program as root in gnome i get the following error:
Code:
Failed to run /usr/sbin/synaptic as user root:
Failed to fork new process: file or directory not found
so i guess i have some problems with fork whatever it is?

as i don't get that error running my debian default kernel, i am sure
i have missed something importent at the kernel config.

does anybody know what i have missed at the kernel config??

thanks

320mb,
This is not a RTFM type site.. give better and more insightful answers or skip it and move on..

On with the problem....
Are you logged in as root in gnome when launching applications? If so, well the error your getting is simply put: "file or directory not found"

Have you checked to see if that directory or executable even exists? What program are you trying to run? Did you install it? Ignore the reading of the fork man page, it'll probably just confuse you even more.
