Question force installation

In rh8 how do u force an installation?

i tried to add packages from my install cd so i could use gcc and kernal compile utilities but it said i was missing
cyrus-sasl=2.1.7-2
and
krb5-libs=1.2.5-6

I downloaded the rpms but when i tried to install them it said that newer versions were already installed.

First they arent there, then they are...whats up with my disappering reappering packages??

Someone help...

To force an rpm to install use "rpm --force". To install an rpm without a dependencies check, use "rpm --nodeps".

As for the now you see it, now you don't game, it probably means the packages are already on there but using a different name.

I would type in (all lines followed by hitting enter)
cd /home/me
rpm -Uhv file.rpm --nodeps

if that doesn't work then try

rpm -Uhv file.rpm --force

That should do it.
