For some reason, I can't send mail.

I wish I had more information, but this is a rather mysterious problem. When I first started using Linux, I could send mail just fine in Firefox, Evolution, Mozilla Messenger, whatever. Now, for some reason, whenever I try to send email, nothing happens. No error message, no connection, nothing. I have been using webmail for the time being, but this is rather irritating.

The only thing that I can think of is that I use Gkrellm to notify me of when I have mail. I don't remember if my problem started when I started using Gkrellm or not.

Can anybody think of what the problem might be? Thanx.

Are you sending thru your ISP's mail server or your own? If its your own mail server.. well, is it running even?

Hmmm. I guess that might be my problem right there. I honestly hadn't thought about how SMTP works. Perhaps I should should get Sendmail working? Can Thunderbird even use Sendmail?

Thunderbird is an email client.. Sendmail is a MTA.. Thunderbird wouldn't use sendmail directly... as in using a sendmail command, but instead connect and use it as if it was setup to be an smtp server to send mail.. etc.
