For all thoses Firefox addon ant downloader player
 

I have been using this ant video downloader and player for sometime in windows and macs. which downloads video I like and converts them to mp4.

When I stared figuring out which version of Linux my systems played well with. Than I decided mint Linux played better now I am using it on two systems. This one is a IBM T500. I had issues with installing the converter for this addon and I decided to contact the creator. They told me that the auto install of the converter has issues in Linux Mint debian systems seem to be able to install plugins or addons better than RPM based distributions why I have no clue. I was asked me to download FFmpeg stand-lone. Which did not work still would not stop downloading webm video extension which did not convert to mp4. After a few email tickets back and fourth. Here is the solution which works in Linux Mint 18 and might in other Debian systems.

Install ant video downloader by search for it in the Firefox addons

To fix the Firefox issue of not downloading webm video. Open firefox type in url field answer the warranty question than Type in the searchDisable each one of the webm list than restart Firefox than go to ant video download click preferences click install converter. after it installs try downloading a video from youtube. Which now should be converted to mp4. Thought I would share this with all.

miro-video-converter . handbrake, and perhaps a few others. after downloading your movie, use one of them to convert it to a format of your choice. why you do not install a plugin that will automatically download as a mp4 I don't know.

go to firefox click that button thingy and select addons then click the pluings on the side panel then type in download in the search box then pick one, two , three, try out a few of them to see if that fits your needs.

Thanks for the tip. Another option may be to use Video DownloadHelper instead of Ant.

and if you belong to those lucky ones that can get a recent version of mpv, it integrates youtube-dl so that you can play yt videos directly.

So, I checked it out and it said that it can download videos from Canada's Broadcasting Corporation site. Finding something to do this has been a challenge. My initial test only got a promo video, rather than the show. However, isolating the frame of the url which contains the video seems to be working. I'll check out result in a bit.

Okay, that was successful. Mind you, the hope was that it would be less choppy than watching it streamed, which it isn't. Which means I just need a more powerful computer. But, anyway, it did work.

ETA: I figured out why it was so choppy. youtube-dl downloaded the best video it could, meaning the biggest and highest resolution video possible. So I just had to figure out how to download a lower resolution video that my computer can handle. The site only had separate audio and video files, but no combined ones. So, another thing to figure out. Something I'll try at some point. Anyway, I'm glad to finally conquer that site.
