font.FreeType2.enable not seen in about:config for Firefox 3.0

I'm trying to enable freetype (font.FreeType2.enable) for Firefox, but when I check in about:config, I don't see the option.

Why is that ?

I do have freetype installed on my box.
libu@kontiki:~$ ls /usr/lib/*free*
/usr/lib/ /usr/lib/
/usr/lib/ /usr/lib/

I got this. Just created a file user.js in my default directory and added the following statements

user_pref("font.FreeType2.enable", "true");
user_pref("font.FreeType2.autohinted", "true");
user_pref("font.FreeType2.printing", "true");
user_pref("font.FreeType2.unhinted", "false");

firefox3, freetype
