Font browser for Mandrake 9.1/Gnome?
 

Does anyone know a program I can use to display and print off a list of all the fonts on my system?

I know I can view them individually through lots of different programs, but I want to be able to make up a hardcopy list that shows how the fonts look, not just their names. Many programs allow you to print a sample (frex, "The quick brown fox jumped...") in every font on your system, or listing the names of the fonts in the fonts themselves, etc. If I could get a printed list like this, it would be easier to refer to than scrolling through a list on my computer (especially in OOo, which is veeerrrryyyy slow in scrolling through anything). When I used Windoze, I used FontWrangler. The creator's a jerk, but the program's great.

I've tried gfontview, but every time I try to print from it, I get:
I also tried fnsam, but iit refused to start up. I think that maybe I don'd have Perl on my system -- do I need Perl to run fnsam?

I want to be able to refer to all my fonts at one time, on one nice list, and I want the list to show samples in the fonts, not just a list of the names. Does anyone know of another program that can do this, or fix my printing problem with gfontview, or get fnsam working?

I have tried something called fontlinge which sorts your fonts into categories then displays them in a web browser using MYSQL database and apache web server. Look it up in http://Freshmeat.net .

I have used fnsam but it only shows fonts in the ghostscript fontlist. Whether this can be modified to include all fonts I do not know. It does not need perl. Look in the folder and load index.html into a web browser.

I have recently downloaded but failed to install one called choosefont, which sounds the best of the lot. Look it up at Freshmeat. Please let me know if you can get it installed. Let me know how you get on. Do not know if choosefont will print but it shows all fonts as you see them. Try it.

Do you have permission to write to the relevent /tmp/file for printing? Sounds like you do not. Check the permissions.
