Fluxbox provides no usable interface

i installed fluxbox over ubuntu, logged into it but all i get is a bar at the bottom with only a couple of useless options, if i middle click on the desktop i get another menu with options about which workspace i'm using, but i have no way of launching any applications from it, the CLI doesn't show up if you kill your X session on this 64 bit installation.

basically what i would like to know is how to configure fluxbox from gnome to have atleast a link to a terminal emulator

Edit: ok i've figured out how to launch with a terminal emulator but i'd love to know how to get some icons on the desktop, plus i can only run one app at a time

Have a look at the fluxbox homepage, there's a link to fbDesk, it's a utility for creating/managing desktop icons.

I don't know why you can only run one app at a time - fluxbox runs all my apps just fine. Are you getting any error messages? You could try modifying ~/.fluxbox/startup and changing the line:
Code:
exec /usr/bin/fluxbox
to
exec /usr/bin/fluxbox -log "/home/username/.fluxbox/log"
If it logs error messages, please post them here.

one step ahead of ya, i set that before i even loaded up fluxbox for the 1st time XD

also wondering about a good file manager for fluxbox, nautilus doesn't seem to work and just about crashes the system, i tried xffm or whatever it is n that wouldnt even open...

it was because xterm can only run one app at a time, i've now discovered the menu system config thingy fluxmenu, which has allowed me to create a menu of the bare basics and i'm slowly building it up

I tried ROX as a file manager in fb, but I much prefer Thunar.
