Red face Fluxbox not remembering profile

Well, I wanted a light weight GUI and I have decided to dump KDE for now and try Fluxbox. I think it is ok, but a lot of work to get things going. Almost feel it isn't worth it, but I am sticking with it. I am having one problem though. I log in as root but it seems that the WM does not remember my profile(/etc/profile). It does not remember my path variable or aliases etc. This is obviously causing me problems. WHat am I doing wrong. How do I fix this?

hmmm...it could be a lot of things. I suggest you NEVER log in as root. Always su or sudo as necessary. Loggin in as root is the biggest security hazard in Linux.

If you mean that your path and aliases aren't maintained in terminals, then you need to do two things:

1. Open your terminal (xterm, rxvt, aterm, eterm, . . . ) with the -ls option (edit your menu file).

2. Create a .bashrc file in your home directory. This is where I define my aliases as well as a custom bash prompt for root (but that's another story).

Enjoy!
