None of the windows you open have tabs at the upper left (default unless you change it?

Right click, select configuration and make sure "use tabs" is highlighted.

I think in 0.9 the tabs are built into the title bar so they don't stick out.

Transparency relies on you having a decent background setter app. Fluxbox comes with the fbsetbg script which'll automatically pick and use the best app you have installed. See the Fluxbox site for more info, and try fbsetbg -d and -h.
