Fluxbox - How to enter???

Hai,

I downloaded and compiled fluxbox, and now I have a problem. My system is RedHat 9, and the system boots into XWindow by default. How do I go into fluxbox, as it logins to KDE by derfault and I don't get an option for fluxbox.

Thanx.

it dependends on your login manager, KDM, GDM, or XDM.
look at the boot scripts for the runlevel with X11 to see what you are using. it will likely be KDM or GDM. then you will need to add fluxbox as a new session type. the procedure for this depends on which one your using.

Easiest way: create a file called .xinitrc in your home dir and inside it just type this one line:
Code:
exec fluxbox
Now when you type startx you should be running flux by default.

Ok, I have said that my system boots into GUI as default, or it is set to init 5. Therefore, do I need to configure the files in gdm in /etc/X11?

just add a file called fluxbox to /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions
using the command:

touch /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/fluxbox

open the file and add:

#!/bin/bash -login

exec fluxbox

then

chmod 766 /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/fluxbox

and you should be ready to go

I did it , but it was not enough . But I have finally solved this, as you have to create a file in /usr/share/apps/switchdesk and then add the name of that file in /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession.

Hoorah, I have solved it.
