FluxBox Developmental 0.9 Issues

I run a RedHat 9.0 machine with mainly Gnome but I like to go into Fluxbox every now and then. I want to try out the 0.9 release because it has a bunch of features that I like(mainly transparent menus). Anyway, since I boot to runlevel 5 I found the only way to get FluxBox added to your sessions is to install the rpm(which adds FluxBox to the sessions at login) and then install the source. I'm running into a problem with the 0.9 release because their are no rpms available. Strictly source. I installed it anyway and when I click on FluxBox in the sessions box and proceed to login I get some nasty error message. Obviously its looking for the older version and not finding it.

Any way around this?

The error just says I was unable to run that session. Their is no trace of FluxBox in the Xsession file however, reading the docs at FluxBox's site it says you have to edit the /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/FluxBox file and add blah blah blah. I did that but it doesn't work.

OK - I didn;t have Fluxbox on RH9 so I installed it. after the install create /etc/X11/gdm/Sessions/fluxbox with:
Code:
#!/bin/bash
exec /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession fluxbox
Then edit /etc/X11/xdm/Xsession and just after
Code:
gnome)
       exec -l $SHELL -c "$SSHAGENT gnome-session"
       ;;
add:
Code:
    fluxbox)
       exec /usr/local/bin/fluxbox
       ;;
Then restart the X server and login selecting fluxbox.

hmmm...still giving that error. Its possible that the install did not go smoothly. I'm going to try and re-install it.

Are you sure that the config files read exactly as I posted?
Try restaring the system just to make sure the config files are re-read.

If you want to test then just start a new X server and launch flux box in it:
1) Switch to terminal "Ctrl Alt F1"
2) Login as root
3) Start X - X :1
4) You should go to a blank X server so switch to anotehr console "Ctrl Alt F2"
5) Login as root
6) export your new display export DISPLAY="127.0.0.1:1"
7) Start Fluxbox /usr/local/bin/fluxbox -display 127.0.0.1:1
8) Switch to the new X display "Ctrl Alt F8"

After reinstalling and removing the existing fluxbox rpm and editing everything by hand it works! You da' Man!
