when i try to start flux i get the following error
$fluxbox
BaseDisply::BaseDisplay: connection to X server failed.
Fluxbox: Unknown error.
$
this is the frist time ive ever tried installing a new wm
blackbox is installed but it doesnt work correctly i dont know if that would have anything to do with it or not
i compiled the sources in my usr dir but i did it as root i dont know if this matters
os = slack 8.1
i also downloaded the slackware bin but i had no idea how to use it
I don't know of any other way to start the window manager from a console than with $ startx. If you're in KDE or something you can use graphical tools. But I don't think there is a $ fluxbox command. Try the way I suggested and see if that works. The .xinitrc is dotted .
Check out the documenation on their site. It's pretty good. You can do all kinds of cool stuff. Configure it any way you want. The artwiz fonts are really pretty too! I tried fluxbox some time ago and it's all I use. Every once in a while I get inspired by seeing someone's desktop and run KDE or Gnome for a bit, but always go back to fluxbox.
