fluxbox: 2 questions
Is it poss. to set a keyboard shortcut to exit fluxbox? This is about the only thing I need to use the mouse for:)

Fluxbox fails to load the groupfile, although I have it defined in /home/.fluxbox/init (as /home/.fluxbox/groups). Any thoughts as to why it still complains?

Does Ctrl+Alt+Backspace work?

its not that I can't exit, I would just like to have a keyboard shortcut for it (I find that using the keyboard is alot more efficient than the mouse)

Doesn't Ctrl+Alt+Backspace kill x-server? Is there a way to exit fluxbox via the keyboard?

darthtux 09-11-2004 10:22 PM

What are you saying? What is the difference between exiting fluxbox or the X-server? Same thing. If you startx from the command line Ctrl+Alt+Backspace will take you back to the command line. If you have a graphical login it will take you back to it.

Ctrl+Alt+Backspace is using the keyboard.

Add this to ~/.fluxbox/keys

Mod1 F12 :exit

This may let you exit by pressing Ctrl+F12. I'm not at home right now so I can't check it out. Edit to the key/keys you want.

The command is "Quit" rather than "exit", so it'd be:
Mod1 F12 :Quit

I suppose exit might work, but I'm going by what is in the documents and what works for me.

If the groups file doesn't exist, you will get that message (no harm done, though). Just create the file and the message will go away: touch $HOME/.fluxbox/groups
Also, make sure your path in init is correct. /home/.fluxbox/groups doesn't look right to me

What you can do is if you have Exit as part of your fluxbox menu, make a command to execute the root menu (same as right clicking) and then use the keyboard to navigate to Exit if you cannot make a direct key command to it.

I use 'Mod4 a: RootMenu' on my system

Why don't you just get bbkeys and bbconf and edit the config file in bbkeys, said in the Flux website so that you can use bbkeys in Flux?? if you want to make life easier you might as well install bbconf and bbkeys.

mikshaw 09-12-2004 12:11 PM

I don't really see the point, since you can create any hotkey combination you want in the included ~/.fluxbox/keys file =o)

Thank-you for your replies first of all,

both quit, and exit didn't work unfortunately. I use fluxbox 0.1.14 (with menu key support complied in) so perhaps these commands only work with more recent releases (ie fluxbox-devel).

flux still doesn't find the groups file.
I did create the file via: touch /home/paul/.fluxbox/groups
and even threw in an entry (xterm) just to see if that changed anything.
/home/paul/.fluxbox/init does have an entry for the group file which points to the one I created. Oh well, its not that big of a problem.

Thanks again!

Why not upgrade to 0.9.10? You're missing out on a lot!

I could, it just has a lot of stuff i wouldn't use - too bloated :D
