Flood of repetitive PCIe messages in DMESG

Hi all,

Earlier today I attempted to install new firmware for the Broadcom wifi card in my 2008 Macbook. This appeared to be successful, but upon reboot I still didn't get an option to connect to wifi.

Moreover, when I ran dmesg to see any messages relating to that card, I was met with a very repetitive "card present/card not present" message. Based on the timestamps on these messages I'm getting dozens per second at the moment.

Occasionally I get about a hundred messages of "no adapter" (with the same PCIe details) before it resumes the "card present/card not present" chorus.

The exact message:
Code:
pciehp 0000:00:1c.4:pcie004: Slot(4): Card not present
pciehp 0000:00:1c.4:pcie004: Slot(4): Card present
I'm assuming the recent firmware update has something to do with this - should I try to remove the new fw file and see what happens when I reinstall?

What can I do to fix this error? Or, failing that, how can I suppress this error and get some useful information from DMESG?

EDIT:
I ran lspci and it turns out the 0000:00:1c.4 address in the messages belongs to a PCIe bridge, not the wifi adapter itself.

Thanks!

Is this specifically MACOS or some particular distribution of Linux?

I don't know Bodhi at all, or the state of the PCI drivers. Might be better to request that your question be moved to that particular forum.

Have you searched at all for this error WRT a Broadcom card, citing the specific model, and the 2008 Macbook? Sorry, that's all I got at this point. Except perhaps to add the Broadcom card model to this discussion.

Might grep chip number of broadcom card instead.

Looking at this thread

https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...80-4175634173/

Bohdi has inxi installed so inxi -N or inxi -F should help with broadcom chip id info.

Might grep firmware also with

Code:
dmesg | grep firmware
for any firmware errors like I show on my chromebook using AntiX.

Code:
harry@biker:~
$ dmesg | grep firmware
[ 3.987594] platform regulatory.0: Direct firmware load for regulatory.db failed with error -2
Edit: Might wanna move this over to bohdi section of forum also .

Thanks, this was very helpful. Giving it another try again tonight or tomorrow.
