Flashplayer

Anyone heard anything about a x86-64 version of FlashPlayer and jre for running as a plugin
for Firefox on x86-64 boxes?

The actual Flash and jre don't work on 64 bit, but some people have tried to make other programs that can have the same function. I have swfdec for flash and Blackdown for java. They mostly work but have some problems. For instance for me it shows flash animations, but if it's something to interact with then it usually doesn't work.

I've also heard people setup a chroot to run a 32 bit environment for some applications like firefox. I haven't had a chance to try it out myself, but some instructions are here. Note that those are for ubuntu, so some things may be a bit different.

Hi,
I have FC4 x86_64. Since the FC4 package came with browsers compiled in 64bit mode, I uninstalled firefox and installed the 32 bit version of it. I left mozilla 64bit alone since there were a lot of dependencies with it, but I did installed the 32 version of it in /usr/local/mozilla. I also have gxine, mplayer, and mplayer plugin in 32 bit. Everything runs great. There is really no advantage of running a 64 bit browser at this time since flash, java, mplayer codecs are still 32 bit. For 64 bit stuff, we'll have to wait until that little company in Redmond starts shipping their latest masterpiece.;)
