Flashplayer 10 not picked up by FF 2.0.0.18

Newest version downloaded, installed libflashplayer.so in
/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins also put it in ~/.mozilla/plugins and ~/firefox/plugins. Deleted ~/.mozilla/firefox/c3so4bo4.default/xpti.dat
and started Firefox. Plugin is not detected when about plugins is clicked nor does it show up in ~/.mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat. Copied
libflashplayer.so for V9 back to /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins, deleted xpti.dat file and restarted Firefox. Plugin now shows up, works and shows up in the ~/.mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat file:

The xpti.dat file
shows these as the paths for plugins:

14,/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins
15,/home/chris/.mozilla/plugins
16,/home/chris/.mozilla/plugins
17,/home/chris/firefox/plugins

No matter what I do FF will not register Flashplayer V10. If anyone has an idea on what could be the problem here I'd appreciate a bit of help.

OS is Mandrake 10.1 - yes, I know it's old.

Just a quick question: What permissions are set on the plugin?

Permissions in ~/.mozilla/plugins and ~/firefox/plugins are

-rwxr-xr-x 1 chris chris 10017140 Oct 4 22:15 libflashplayer.so*

and in /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins:

-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 10017140 Oct 4 22:15 libflashplayer.so*

I've checked these are the same as V9.

When 9.0 is loaded the ~/.mozilla/firefox/pluginreg.dat shows:

/usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so:$
:$
1206410557000:1:5:$
Shockwave Flash 9.0 r124:$
Shockwave Flash:$
2
0:application/x-shockwave-flash:Shockwave Flash:swf:$
1:application/futuresplash:FutureSplash Player:spl:$

When 10 is installed it shows nothing for flash neither there or in about plugins. Copying 9 back over deleting the pluginreg.datand xpti.dat files restarting firefox it shows back up.
