Flash problem on most every browser and Linux version.
 

I use a Compaq Presario SR1503WM PC. The monitor is the one that came with it when I purchased it, it's an FS7600, although I have another monitor I can use that's an LCD and newer from another PC I used to have.

I have been experiencing a problem using all Ubuntu based versions of the Linux Operating Systems, even regular Ubuntu, I don't have this problem for some strange reason using Lubuntu.

What happens with any version of Ubuntu based Linux OS's is I can do a fresh install of the OS, it doesn't matter which browser I am using, Chromium, Chrome, Iceweasel, Firefox, Chrome, etc... Any of them. After the fresh install "NO CHANGES AT ALL" the browsers work fine when displaying adobe flash.

The problem I am having is when I UPDATE the OS's using their update selection then any and all browsers start displaying on every website I go to, the flash game, video etc... displays as Purple, Red, Green, and the size of the characters and such are distorted and small.


This only happens after I update the operating system software.

I've tried several things to resolve this problem, I've used the latest version I could find of every browser, also tried earlier versions. I made sure to only use 1 version of adobe flash, there aren't 2 versions installed because I know that can cause problems.

The problem only happens after I update the OS's software, but oddly enough it doesn't seem to affect Lubuntu 13.10 or 14.04 which I have tried.

It doesn't seem to matter whether I am using a Ubuntu based OS XFCE, KDE, GNOME or whatever, I get the same result after updating.

I have tried updating Adobe flash, that doesn't seem to help at all.

While I like Lubuntu okay I would prefer to use Linux Mint, but like I said once I update the OS using their update option from the menu it seems to install something that is making Flash Display on all websites go haywire.

Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I would think that if it was a problem with my hardware that it wouldn't work right to begin with right? Like I said this only happens after I update the software. I'm thinking it's a driver update that's not compatible. But if that is the case how can I track down which one it is and possibly avoid or revert it?

So far the same thing has happened on every Ubuntu Based OS that I have used except Lubuntu. It's happened on Zoring 8.1 Lite, Linux Mint - All Ubuntu based Linux versions, Even Ubuntu. Only after the update though.

But then again, if it was a display driver problem why would it only affect Flash displays on every website after the update.

NOTE: Something I should mention, if I install Google Chrome "Not Chromium" it works fine until I update the OS's software, but particularly using Chrome it seems to affect the entire browser and not just Flash displays, the top bar on the browser turns purple and the entire display is haywire.

NOTE : Even OS's with Firefox stock only installed, or ICEWeasel the display is fine until I update the OS's software itself. I considered it might be an update to adobe flash that's causing the problem, so I tried removing Adobe Flash and using an earlier version with no luck.

Something else I tried that didn't work was to go to Youtube, selected fullscreen on a video, used the tab key and space bar to uncheck "Enable Hardware Accelleration", that had no effect.

I have read a few responses to similar situations where some claim that the issue may be related to my PC having an older processor that's not compatible with Adobe Flash latest version, this PC has a Celeron D 3.33mhz's.

It appears the only way to avoid this problem is to reinstall Linux Mint and not update anything because this only happens when I select and use Linux Mint or others Update manager.

The problem you present is spread across several PCs, OSes and versions, unnumbered updates, etc. In short, all the hardware and updated software doesn't work. Nobody can tell you a fix for that.

Adobe Flash on linux is not being updated, and that's a basic issue. So linux falls behind windows versions, and people have to dupe website checks to get things to work. Reach for html 5

Which I use to watch Movies, Youtube, and Stream Music in my motorcycle shop.

Ubuntu based distros don't come near it.

I run AntiX on it instead. Sounds like you should also.

I musta missed several other pcs because the Compaq is the only one I noticed.

@Justbarely. I am a avid user of greasemonkey addon in icewesel and linterna magica, which is a user script for watching youtube without using flash
on older gear which I possess.

Antix also comes the GTK-youtube viewer for watching youtube vidoes outside of a browser session for older gear.

Edit: in your whole post Justbarely. You did not mention how much ram you have. It matters.

Ram has a lot to do with that also.

Thank you for the quick reply. It's a frustrating issue because it works until updating, but I get what your saying. I've decided to stick with Lubuntu 14.04, so far no problems with it even after updating. I've heard a lot of people mention Lubuntu was excellent for older machines, so this might explain why I am not experiencing any display problems with it. Thanks again.

Thank you for the quick reply. I have 1GB of Ram. I've decided to stick with Lubuntu for now, it seems to be working fine after updating. I'm hoping to upgrade to a new PC sometime in the future with more modern hardware. I haven't been using Linux for long but I have tried several different versions, I like the Ubuntu based versions, I don't like Ubuntu with Unity though. Thanks again.
