Flash Player for Mozilla
 

I'm using Iceweasel on Debian, I've been using Flash for a while, on different installs, and with different packages. But it always seems to have the same problem.

Alot of websites use flash for their navigation, and menus seem to get caught behind other flash objects instead of being in the forground. I have tried 3 different flash packages:

libflash-mozplugin [0.4.13-9] (doesn't seem to work at all)
flashplayer-mozilla [9.0.124.0-0.0] (currently installed)
flashplugin-nonfree [1:16] (seems to be the same as flashplayer-mozilla)

Is this a common problem? And is there a way to fix it?

With Firefox a workaround is to use a flash blocker extension.
Personally I use the NoScript extension which blocks the flash animations by default, along with the javascript and java codes in a page. It is configurable on a site by site basis (white lists, black lists), permanently or temporarily.
But there is an extension which only blocks the flash animations and replaces them with a place holder on which to click to play the animation on demand.
Search on the Mozilla Add-ons site to have the exact name and the last version.

How could this help? I have it installed, it would block all Flash altogether!!....?
No I think that that is just a bug of the whole system - the website makers + Flash's fault. Does the site work in Windows browsers? :(

Flashblock is an option one can use so that not every silly ad or animation is loaded and started right away and distracts your attention from the content one wanted to see.
Only when wanted these animations start.
NoScript does the same - and more.
I could not imagine how to "live" without those - I use NoScript.
These are useful indeed.
But that does not change what the OP mentioned - the flash content on these sites is not usable with flashplayers in linux - menus are hidden behind other things.
These sites have no alternative method to view them - flash only (which is a disease really).
I would contact the websites admins and tell them - I cannot imagine that adobe's flash player (which is the backend mostly) would have such bugs - it is probably rather a problem with the content on these pages.

Another thing to try would be to use "gnash" as the flash-player - I had it working once - but it would only play some (most actually - but not all) flash content. You could try.

It helps because with the flash animations blocked, the menus which otherwise appear hidden under the animations, are now visible and usable.
And the flash animations are not blocked "altogether", because you can see them, but only if you wish, by temporarily enabling the site in NoScript, or by clicking the place holder in Flashblock.

I didn't say it is a solution but only a workaround.
I agree that there is a bug somewhere, but a workaround is better than nothing.

I added FlashBlock to Iceweasel. So far I'm liking it. Especially not seeing the talking advertising on the webpages!
