Flash issues on Ubuntu 12.04 LTS

I am running (k)ubuntu 12.04 and keep getting flash crashes. No matter what browser I use (i prefer FF) all flash movies, clips etc keep crashing atleast once. I keep having to refresh over and over again untill the movie does play.

I am running flash 11.2.r202

Can someone pls help?

Are you on a 64 bit system, using 64 bit browsers and 64 bit flash?
If so, what processor model have you got?

Lancelot1 08-04-2012 04:25 AM

no I'm on a 32bit system

Then have you tried launching the browser from a terminal and looking for printed out errors when flash crashes, if any?

Lancelot1 08-04-2012 05:01 AM

ok this is the error i get

(plugin-container:7396): Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_pixmap_foreign_new_for_screen: assertion `GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed

(plugin-container:7396): Gdk-CRITICAL **: IA__gdk_drawable_set_colormap: assertion `GDK_IS_DRAWABLE (drawable)' failed

Are you perhaps running the browser as root (or running it with sudo)?

Lancelot1 08-04-2012 05:08 AM

no I am running it normal

Are you using firefox from your distro main repository or from other sources?
It seems like it has some trouble with the libxcb you have installed on your system...

Lancelot1 08-04-2012 10:37 AM

Ok i goggled around some and found 2 relevant posts.

1. In the past there seems to have been an issue with FF4/5, the flash plugin and Synaptic. ---> I uninstalled the Synaptic manager
2. There was some issue with OpenGL and the LibGl.so ----> I installed the libGl1-mesa-swx11 and unstalled some of the old OpenGL files

BTW as I stated earlier I have the issue with every browser not just FF. So no its not a FF issue.

What CPU are you using: Intel or AMD?

Lancelot1 08-04-2012 12:16 PM

intel why?

DavidMcCann 08-05-2012 11:09 AM

Flash 11 doesn't work on most 32-bit AMD chips, not on Pentium 3 or older, but that's obviously not your problem. Actually, I wasn't paying attention: if it had been the problem, Flash wouldn't have crashed, just sat doing nothing. It still might be worth trying a different version, though.

Have you tried using those browser using a clean user account (create a new user and try from there)?
