fix framebuffer?

frame buffer problem?
i've configured AAlib, however it only works well in X, when in fbconsole it comes up with a bunch of wierd characters
links -g displays the grpahics sorely lacking in color, and TWIN (text like window manager), like aalib has funny characters and doesn't work in FB, only X, how can i sove this?
perhaps the FB was not properly compiled?
