i need to run a test harness sending/receiving emails on a linux platform, specifically FreeBSD.
is there any 'preferred' way of converting Outlook mails to a linux format?
thanks in advance
I'm sure many folks will point out to you, that FreeBSD is NOT Linux, of any type. And there are several guides on Google on how to do this...not passing the buck, but you don't what you want to convert them TO. PDF? Text? Another email reader?
Best thing I could suggest, is to leave them on your Outlook server, fire up a mail client (like Evolution) on BSD, and import them all.

thats fine, i appreciate the information.
i am looking to convert them to a linux readable mail format.
Check out Thunderbird it can read and save .eml type files but I am not sure if there is a version on FreeBSD. Check it out on the Thunderbird forum or their web page.
You will have to install Thunderbird on your Windows machine, I did this a long time ago, and if I can remember correctly id did import Outlook mail at that time. You can then move the files over to your FreeBSD system. I am not sure how this can be done but people at the Thunderbird site may be able to help you. i have a pure Linux machine now and I am using Thunderbird on it.

i'll go to google and investigate further.
You got a few good suggestions in this thread, but what you said here is vague. "Linux readable mail format"...doesn't exist, really. Evolution is different than kMail, different from Sylpheed, Thunderbird, Pine, Mutt, etc. All different.
You need to first decide what functions you want to duplicate. If you're looking for an Outlook replacement, Evolution is probably your best bet. Just email? Got lots of different options.
