Ipcop or Smoothwall as a standalone firewall is excellent. If you don't have a spare computer, then there are several very good firewalls out there. I personally use Shorewall, but if you want more of a GUI config then Firestarter or Guarddog are both good. These three are based on iptables and especially the last two take the sting out of configuring them.
I am getting around pretty well with iptables, I finally understood, it's not so hard once you get to know it, i like more console stuff so I try to keep GUI minimal with Fluxbox.
Hmm, I'm having trouble understanding iptables even with that tutorial. Any ideas?
Edited : Does Firestarter has support for X only? Or do I need to install gnome for it? It seems I am missing some Gconf2 library in order to compile it...
