firewall problem..I think

I am using red hat 8.0 and I think when set it up I put a fire wall on. I don't need the fire wall and if you use the gui tool it never works. When I try to get to the internet I just get a connection refused. How do I turn off the fire wall? Or at least edit it so I can allow http, ftp and mail.

Thanks

Security Level Configuration. Select No firewall, apply and it is off.

A better firewall

Hi, I'm having this same problem I have a fresh RH8 install, I can ping out to anywhere from it, surf the internet, and ping it from any other system but I can't telnet, FTP or Xwindows into the the system. It acts like the firewall on the redhat8 is blocking all this. I chose High on build for security level. I went to the Security level configure and tired no firewall, and I still cannot telnet, ftp, or x windows in.

This is my first RH8 build any help would be apreciated.

with lokkit you can (re)configure iptables, just add the services you want

I've noticed when I choose apply and close when using that tool it doesn't always make the changes right away. I usally have to restart the computer, I'm sure there is a command to restart the firewall it self but I have no idea. Set it to no firewall and restart it.

Thanks, I tried that,, set it to no firewall clicked ok tried it and same thing, telnet attmepts vanish, ftp attempts = connection refused. the RH8 system is successfully pulling an IP with dhpc, an has a registered hostname on our network and can get out no problem.

anything else that would cause a fresh build of RH8 to refuse to allow telnet, ftp, or x windows?

aaron268 04-04-2003 11:23 AM

Yes I set it to no firewall, OK then restarted the system.. no change still can get out no problem from the RH8 system but can't telnet, ftp or X windows back in.
