I discovered how to do it in menus


In the search box to right of url window [sorry I don't remember page components] click the triangle right of star, mouse down to manage search engines and I think I had to copy and paste or type ixquick url somewhere in there cuz it wasn't an option for me. Voila fiddle with it it may behave or setup differently. Sorry not exact ~~ short term memory on the fritz...

No need for all that messing about
Just go to ixquick.com (select classic or desktop mode on mobile ) and hit the "add to firefox" link

Not complicated at all

thanks y'all but i was really talking about the urlbar default search engine.
