hello,
even i am facing the same problem. i can browse in konqueror, but not in firefox. i also found that those pages i visit in konqueror, can be visited in firefox, but not a new page. for example, if i visit www.hello.com in konqueror, i can visit that in firefox. but if i type www.hello.com in firefox first (i don't use konqueror to go to that site), it times out. i am using suse 9.3.
regards
Bharath
Hi bharath144.
I had the same problem as you in the beginning, which drove me nuts when trying to get to know linux. I followed the advice given by craigevil in #18 of this thread, and I'm sorted out.
Hope that helps.
Similar but not Same Problems with Firefox & Konqueror
I was using Firefox and then began to have this problem. It would launch, the window would open, then it would shut down immediately. When I tried Konqueror and typed in a URL, it tried to launch Firefox with the same shut down problem. When I switched to root, I could use the Firefox with no problem. What happened? What can I do to use Firefox again as a regular user?
Doerke sounds like you have a corrupt Firefox profile. Try creating a new profile.
"On Linux or Mac, start Firefox with the the -profilemanager switch, e.g. ./firefox -profilemanager (this assumes that you're in the firefox directory)." http://www.mozilla.org/support/firefox/profile#new
hi guys
i had a similar prob i.e my firefox wouldnt browse,but turning off ipv6 from about:config as mentioned in post #18 by craigevil i managed 2 get firefox to browse!!...thanx a lot 4 the help..
but 4 some reason my gaim doesnt logon 2 either my yahoo account or msn..i use fc4..n i have a dsl connection..
pls help if u guys can..
ne other info if required,id be happy 2 give in..
I've tried turning ipv6 off. No luck. I have created new profiles. Still no luck. My situation now is that I can launch Firefox when I log on as root. I can also launch Firefox as a localuser only if I log on with a session type of windowmaker or failsafe. I cannot launch Firefox under KDE as a local user.
I had exactly the same problem (i.e Konqueror connects but Firefox doesn't) but I found the answer on the Forum.
Try this-
open firefox,
In the Address Bar type about:config
Filter:->
network.dns.disableIPv6 'false' change to 'true' (Boolean)
To get firefox zipping along
network.http.pipelining->true
network.http.pipelining.maxrequests->8
network.http.proxy.pipelining->true
Also, make sure that your settings are 'Connect directly to the internet' i.e No Proxy
This worked for me on a number of Distros that would not connect to the Internet otherwise.
