firefox, ubuntu, tab groups lost
Hm. I have an ubuntu 12.04 with gnome 3 and firefox 36. I have a lot of tabs in it, and they are all organized in groups. Suddenly the icon of tab group went away and I cannot find any way to switch among my tabs. I have no idea what's happened and how can it be fixed.
Do you know a way to restore it?

Ctrl + Shift + E should bring up the tab groups view. However as far as why that icon is there sometimes and other times not, I have yet to figure out myself. It has happened to me on windows too, so I'm assuming it's probably a Firefox bug.

Hmm... Odd.
Did this occur right after any kind of updates, OS or Firefox related? If it was a Firefox update it's possible they moved the button somewhere else or even removed the feature. Firefox has been undergoing heavy redesign lately. Of course if you have an ESR version that would rule out a Firefox update.

Probably yes, but unfortunately I'm not really sure about that. Looks like the plugin is installed and working, but actually it does nothing. I can put back the tab group icon by customizing firefox, but did not help too. Is there any way to check what's happening when I click on it?

looks like the following process works:
tools->addons->tabgroup menu->disable
restart firefox
tools->addons->tabgroup menu->enable
and tab groups work. When I restart firefox it may or may not work, so need to disable/reenable again.
Would be nice to have a fix ....

Looks like you installed this addon: Tabgroup Menu.
It is not installed by default in Ubuntu 12.04. It seems it can interfere with firefox's internal tab group access. For a fix, you have to report the bug to the addon developer.

Yes, you are right. And looks like there is a thread about it in github.

pan64,
As cepheus11 points out, it may be that the Tabgroup menu add-on is at the heart of the problem.
Are you able to access your sessionstore files?
