Exclamation Firefox Speed issues 6mbps feels like 6kbps

Hey guys.....
Im a brand new ubuntu convert and am pretty impressed as to how far this community has come..everything works perfect except for one big problem.

While using firefox my 6mbps connection feels like 6kbps!!! FOr example..it takes about 3-6 seconds to load..google.com! During windows use..it is as fast as it should be.. but on ubuntu its as good as a 6kbps dialup! downloads are superfast but its just regular browsing that sucks! IS there a proper way to fix this.

here is what happens.. once i type a url... it looks like firefox stalls for a coupla secs and then the whole page shows up all at a time... say for instance I hit www.google.com firefox seems to wait for about 3 secs (lookingup <domain name>) before it actually reacts to the action and then the whole page loads at-once...
my question is why is it waiting before it loads the page? I know it might be a DNS issue but what do i do?
I spend a lot of time on the browser and I really need this! Help me out fellas!

thank you!

probably a DNS issue, make sure you don't have a bad entry in /etc/resolv.conf
it could also be a cache problem, make sure your firefox use cache (somewhere in settings I believe you can change the size of the cache size... shouldn't be hard to find).
or maybe your hdd isn't using DMA, so is sluggish and cause some delay when firefox try to read his cache? Do you have DMA set to "1" when you type "hdparm /dev/hda" as root (considering /dev/hda is your hdd).

Firefox, Mozilla, and Netscape uses the same schemes. They first gather all data and then process it in the backgound. When they think they are ready to display it.You can change this so that it just loads what it has. Search for Firefox performance tweaks and type about:config in the address bar to add or change them.
