After the mods as shown by Mozilla I was able to gain at least 5 times the speed.
And did not seem to loose anything.
Will it work for you? I do not know but is worth a try.
This was tried on a Desktop AMD Phenom 3.4, PclinuxOs 64, broadband.
I suspect even better on dial-up.
I have not tried it on a Pad or phone.
