Firefox quits upon starting voice

OS- redhat 9
kernel- 2.4.30
Firefox-

when ever I try watching some thing on youtube/video.goole
fire fox disappears.
It close all the open pages of fireFox. Its like(i assume) as firefox is not allowed to access sound device. When ever fire fox try to initiate voice linux shuts down all firefox.

Maybe you should use newer version of firefox (e.g. 1.5 or 2.0)?

1) Get a newer distro
2) Update your kernel
3) Update Firefox the newest and safest version is 2.0.0.1

And what the heck do you mean by

1)Send me a new distro
2)kernel is updated 2.4.30---Thats what I need to use
3) problem exist even with netscape

When ever any browser(firefox or netscape) try to show a video clip
for example from you tube

a) it starts video ok(i see it)
b) Before i can hear some thing it quits

A HIGHER POWER in my computer shuts off whole firefox/netscape.

with gaim/mplayer voice works just fine.
I believe it has some thing to do with way I compiled the kernel.
Unlike suse I don't see any thing If I do
