Angry Firefox Problem

Every single web address that i put into firefox brings me to google and if its a subdomain i get a file not founf error. What is going on here? Also, is it a bad idea to install something in my home directory? I downloaded mozilla into my home directory and installed it from terminal. It installed into a folder within my home directory. Is that going to cause problems? Where should I install things in the future?

Where you install something shouldn't cause you problems, usually. See if you're typing in the google search bar or the address bar, maybe.
