Firefox only spell checking in German
I have a Dell Studio 1535 that Dell set up using
Ubuntu 8.04 (Hardy Heron),
kernel linux 2.6.24-16 generic
Gnome 2.22.1
Firefox 3.0b5
For reasons unknown to me Dell set this up using a German Spell check dictionary, so about 50% of the words are marked as misspelled and all suggestions appear to be German language.
Being new to linux, I am ignorant of how to correct this or where to go for help. Dell support has proved to be worthless or less than worthless (based on the number and variety of wrong answers they have given on the other questions I have asked, and the number of times a beginner such as myself can see that the answer they are giving can't possibly be right)
So if someone can tell me how to fix this or where to find help, I will be very greatful and just that much farther along the path to ridding myself of Microsoft.
thanks in advance for any efforts you can make. (Half the suggestions can be wrong and you will still be providing better support than Dell)

I don't have spell checking enabled in firefox so I don't know whether this link will help or not. Alternatively look under tools->Add-ons and see if a German spell checker is enabled. If it is disable it.
And check under Edit->Preferences->Content for preferred language.

If you right-click in any text field, such as the quick reply space below, you'll find a menu entry for "languages". You can use this to select which language it uses and to add new dictionary packs.

Well that worked just fine. And it was ridiculously easy. The language it was defaulted to was "de_AT" and all I had to do was select "English / United States" Now it works just fine.
Thanks, Guys, that is one more niggling little thing fixed.
I am wondering though, Is there some way I was supposed to know that or be able to look it up somewhere, or is the only way to ask in a forum such as this?
Again, Thanks!

I have been using firefox for a long time and didn't know about right clicking in a text field.
I guess you could have read through the firefox docs but the purpose of forums such as this is for people who know, or who have experienced similar problems to share their knowledge.
I learn something new everyday on here.
