Firefox layout and encoding preferences

How do I get Firefox to remember my preferred layout? Whenever I customize my toolbars these changes are lost when I close the program.

Also, how do I prevent Firefox auto-detecting certain (English) web-pages as Chinese?

First, check /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/<something>.default. Check the permissions on prefs.js to see that they are set to read-write and not read-only.

Second, you could try editing userCHROME.css and userCONTENT.css (they are in the chrome folder ) to make the toolbars and menus look as you want the to look.
