firefox + kde

Hi... I am very happy because i have just installed the firefox in my box...
The only problem now i have is that it looks a little strange....
I think that it has a gnome like style..with big buttons and strange effects for the mouse-on and mouse-off events... If i had installed the gnome i would probably could change the overall style.. The problem is that the gnome is not installed and no configuration tool is available... What is the easiest way of configuring look and style?
Thx a lot

One thing that helps is right click on your toolbar and select Customize... It will open a window. Click on "use small icons". The other thing to do is install a new theme. I found a Plastik theme for firefox that looks great and fits in well with kde.

can you get firefox to use the KDE theme? why does it look different?

reddazz 11-07-2004 08:29 PM

yes it can use the kde theme just download gtk-qt theme engine from kde-look.org , install it and then use kcontrol to change your gtk theme or let it use the kde theme.

And how i ll let it use the kde theme?

The reason why firefox doesn't automatically use the KDE theme is because it uses GTK which has a separate style/widget system. (KDE uses this thing called QT)
The same will occur with all other programs that use GTK.

When you install gtk-qt engine, an option will appear under Look & Feel in Kcontrol called GTK-Styles. Go to that option and select an option that says something like "Allow GTK apps to use KDE theme", also select the option to allow GTK apps to use KDE fonts. Sorry I can't give you the right kcontrol dialogues coz I am using a machine without KDE at the moment. All your GTK apps including mozilla, firefox, gimp, xchat etc will then look like KDE apps.

Yes, that works, but the scroll "bar" will scroll over the scroll "arrows" on the bottom. Also, its wonky.

thx

thx guys it worked fine .....
I was very luck because suse 9.1 includes the packet in the cd's.
Firstly i tried to compile it on my own but i failed installing it.
I would like to ask one more question... I can't find anywhere in the control center the selection u have told me any good idea?

reddazz 11-09-2004 06:44 AM

what distro are you using coz I know Mandrake and some other distros sometime don;t show kcontrol options due to the way they configure their versions of KDE.

alaios 11-09-2004 07:45 AM

I suse the suse 9.1... Any suggestion?

newellrp1 11-09-2004 10:27 PM

yeah i dont see anything about letting GTK use qt stuff. you think it would work if suse includes it in their distro...
