firefox issues

Having a few problems with firefox on a new install of suse 10.1, firstly it doesnt seem to be possible to use firefoxs own internal update system, there is an update option for extensions and search engines, but nothing for firefox itself? has novel removed this option to control the updates itself? If so this seems like needless control freakery, the internal firefox update system works great and the downloads are small, quick and easy, Ive noticed this option isnt on thunderbird too, why have removed these important features??

also in tab browsing i use middle click to open the new tabs, in my old distro i used to be able to also use this to close a tab but it doesnt work no more, any ideas why?

Most Linux distros disable the automatic update feature in Firefox and Thunderbird. Its of no use to most *nix users because only root can write to the location where firefox is installed and most users simply use their package manager to upgrade.

Latest releases of Firefox and Thunderbird are available from ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/projects/mozilla .
