Smile Slow browsing

OK if Konqueror works well then this indicates that you
may have the slow browser problem.
There are various cures for this. Different ones work for
different people. You will have to be patient and try each
of them in turn. If one doesn't work then reverse the change.
1. Turn off IPv6 by entering these commands into the
'/etc/modprobe.conf.local' file (if this file doesn't
exist then create it).
'alias net-pf-10 off'
'alias ipv6 off'
Open a terminal window and use the change directory
command (cd) to navigate to /etc, then edit the
modprobe.conf.local using a text editor such as kwrite.
Enter these two commands without the quote marks and
then reboot.
If this doesn't cure the problem then reverse the change
and post again.

I found your posting with a google search, and believe your question is the answer to my problem.

Anyways... yea.. when i type an ip number in the address bar.. the page will open instantly. but if type a lettered url the page takes quite a while to open.

I have fedora core 6 with all the lastest auto updates, anyways i tried to look at /etc/resolv.conf and it appears to be a null file.

i went to the etc directory and typed

vi resolv.conf (and the file is empty) anyways.. now i know this is a dns issue with this distro.. because i can boot to windows on the same box and everything is really fast..

thanks for any advice...

I can see where you were going with this originally.. I used dig to look up a bunch of ip's and shazam.. like lightning the pages loaded that way.
