More proof that mozilla as a whole has gone mad:

I think I may use Opera.

A bit of a muddle with versioning and mozillas 'gone mad'?

I'm still using 3.6.*, and by the time I move up to X.X I they should be back to a more normal versioning system.

That's a bad idea, because they have dropped any support for anything except 5. You don't get any security updates or anything.

FYI: While 3.6 users are being encouraged to move to 5, they will still receive security fixes for a short amount of time.

I see. Well, I wonder how short of a time that is. And what about 4.0, they said they dropped support for it too.

Nice choice!

SlackBuilds hasn't updated yet to 11.50 (the current stable). You can get a binary from here:

http://people.opera.com/ruario/snapshot/Opera/

Or use this to repackage any Opera (or Opera Next) tar package into Slackware format.

So do I, as 3.6 is the branch I currently use (and would like to continue using for a while). My guess is that the timespan will be proportional to the amount of users still running a distro-supplied 3.6 (such as is the case with Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, for example).

Yes, both 3.5 and 4.0 have stopped receiving security updates. That said, I do remember reading somewhere that 4.0 would receive an unplanned security update if a serious enough issue is found.

Firefox 5 is available for Ubuntu users:

Code:
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:mozillateam/firefox-stable
sudo sudo apt-get update
apt-get upgrade
That's all!
