firefox file collision

Hi. My portage recently upgraded firefox to version 3.0.5 which I am happy with until I try to emerge -avuND world.

After the update, it tells me to "emerge @preserved-rebuild" which I try.

Part of the process wants to downgrade firefox to 2.0.0.19.

If I let it go, it compiles fine then during the install, fails with the error

Quote:
Detected file collision(s):

/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/defaults/autoconfig/prefcalls.js
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/defaults/autoconfig/platform.js

Searching all installed packages for file collisions...

Press Ctrl-C to Stop

net-libs/xulrunner-1.9.0.5
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/defaults/autoconfig/platform.js
/usr/lib/mozilla-firefox/defaults/autoconfig/prefcalls.js

Package 'www-client/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.19' NOT merged due to file
collisions. If necessary, refer to your elog messages for the whole
content of the above message.
then wont go any further.

I tried removing firefox 3.0.5 then reinstalling 2.0.0.19, but the same error happened.
I can reinstall firefox 3.0.5 with no problems but everytime I try to upgrade world, it still wants to downgrade to 2.0.0.19 and then fails.

Change your;
/etc/make.conf
USE="-firefox xulrunner"
Then;
Code:
emerge --sync
emerge -uND world
etc-update
revdep-rebuild
xulrunner is the engine firefox 3 run on.

I added that to the make.conf now emerge says

Quote:
Calculating dependencies... done!
[ebuild NS ] net-libs/xulrunner-1.8.1.19 [1.9.0.5] USE="gnome ipv6 java xinerama -debug -xprint" 37,278 kB
[ebuild UD] www-client/mozilla-firefox-2.0.0.19 [3.0.5] USE="gnome ipv6 java xinerama%* -bindist -debug% -filepicker% -iceweasel -mozdevelop -moznopango% -restrict-javascript -xforms% -xprint% (-custom-optimization%) (-dbus%*) (-startup-notification%) (-xulrunner%*)" LINGUAS="en
among other things.

The "net-libs/xulrunner-1.8.1.19" bit is new

Ill give it a run and see how it goes.

No, exactly the same error as before.

edit: I think I fixed it. I removed mozilla-firefox flag from the package.(unmask and mask) files. Now it doesn't look for it anymore.

Gentoo

Since there is no Gentoo sub-forum, please put "Gentoo" somewhere in the title of Gentoo Q's -- I feel baited & switched .
