Firefox Email Arrival Sound

I use webmail provided by my ISP and access it with firefox. I can't get firefox to produce a sound prompt when new email arrives. It worked fine with firefox on Win10 before I migrated to Linux.

Any clues? Thank you.

You accidentally marked your thread as solved despite not having an answer for yourself. Some LinuxQuestions users skip over solved threads. Just FYI.

It's possible your ISP webpage is generating sounds using shockwave flash. Adobe stopped supporting flash on Linux for Firefox several years ago. There are other options. I notice you're using Ubuntu based on the icon in your post. What version of Ubuntu?

The simplest solution is to use Google Chrome. If you don't wish to do that then there's the freshplayerplugin for Firefox; see source and proposed package.

That wasn't an accident. I discovered that Mint 18 needed Pulsaudio in order to get any system sound (who knew?). Once I had PA installed, system sound was there, including email arrival sound. Thanks for the reply though.

BTW, LQ apparently mistakenly assumed that I use ubuntu. In fact, I use Mint 18.

Then perhaps next time post your distro/version with your question so that solutions can be tailored to your setup. Thanks for reporting back. It's good to post your solutions so others with similar problems can benefit by searching.
