Firefox cannot load https sites.
 

Hello,

This is a problem which I believe many are facing, I've seen it on fedoraforums and such.

I'm using Fedora Core 5, and I updated Firefox to 1.5.0.6-2 using yum from the updates repository, I think.

I can't connect to https webpages with that, I get a message saying.

Unexpected response from server

Firefox doesn't know how to communicate with the server.

* Check to make sure your system has the Personal Security Manager installed.

* This might be due to a non-standard configuration on the server.

<Try Again>

This is seen on sites such as Gmail and even the Firefox Extensions Page.

And I have tried visiting these pages from Opera and Konqeror and they work (Gmail) so I do believe it is not the Personal Security Manager, but do correct me if I am wrong.

I have checked the settings; SSL 2.0, SSL 3.0 and TLS 1.0 is being used and OCSP validation is not used.

This did not occur with 1.5.0.5.

I'm not sure if I'm doing anything wrong or is something wrong with this build.

try to reinstall and see what happens maybe...? it could have been a problem through the upgrade process maybe not loading ssl correctly so a fresh install of the correct version may work. *shrug* worth a try

Hi,

I got it working, got the binary from Mozilla's Site, the firefox-1.5.0.6.tar.gz. unpackaged it and swapped that with the one in /usr/lib.

That completely fixed the prob, and nothing was lost :P.

I hope that won't kill anything else.

But yea, they should get that one in Fedora updates fixed.

well, thats great, but you should have removed the rpm package instead of having replaced it with the binary from the ff site. I'm not sure, but you migth have problems with yum next time there's an update. The system still thinks the rpm is intalled. Just enter from a terminal
rpm -qi firefox
if you get a version and other info then yum will try to update it next time there's an update
