Firefox 3 and the java plugin

Hello,

RHEL 5.2
Firefox 3.0b5
jre-6u6-linux-i586-rpm.bin

I installed java without problems. I am not sure how to provide Firefox with the necessary files so it can use java. This version of Firefox, 3.0b5 doesn't seem to have a plugins folder, if one is even needed.

From what I've seen Firefox 3 still uses the same plugin directories, but I'm still running it from within a directory in $HOME. FYI, FF3rc1 is out.

To see your settings, point your browser to the following:
about:plugins
about:config

and then there's always the docs:

Check the plugindoc:
http://plugindoc.mozdev.org/linux.html#Java

Figured it out.

The instructions that came with java were not updated. I created the link wrong. I needed to enter the mozilla plugin directory "/user/lib/mozilla/plugins" and excute the following command: ln -s /usr/java/jre1.6.0_06/plugin/i386/ns7/libjavaplugin_oji.so

FYI
If someone like me is using enterprise linux it does no good to suggest updating Firefox 3 beta 5 to FireFox 3 RC1.
Enterprise Linux freezes the version is ships with and back ports security fixes.

Thumbs up

Thanks, this helped me out on Debian Stable.

Too bad there is no 'Thanks' button anymore.
