Firefox 2 wont run

Okay I think I may have boobed downloading firefox 2. I downloaded the tar.gz. Extracted the directory firefox in a temp directory.

In /usr/lib I removed the firefox 1.5.07 directory and the link
firefox -> firefox_1.5.07

I then cp the firefox 2 directory to /usr/lib okay

Now firefox 2 wont run.

I dig out the installation cd's for Slackware and re-install firefox 1.5.07. Does anyone know how to install Firefox 2 aand how you did it.

I just put it in ~/bin/firefox2 and ran it from there. You might have to use MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1, though.

How are you trying to start it? If it's in /usr/lib with no links to it anywhere in your user's PATH you'll have to provide the entire path to the binary with the command, for example:

/usr/lib/firefox-2.0/firefox

And if you've reinstalled 1.5.0.7 from the CD you'll have the links but they're pointing to 1.5.0.7. You probably want to removepkg firefox-1.5.0.7 and, as root, run the command
Code:
ln -s /usr/lib/firefox-2.0/firefox /usr/bin/firefox

Okay downloaded firefox again from linuxpackages and installed the .tgz package.

There is now icon in KMenu/internet.

When I try to run firefox in a shell I get the following...
Code:
Xlib: connection to ":0.0" refused by server
Xlib: No protocol specified

(firefox-bin:4487): Gtk-WARNING **: cannot open display:
There is a link to firefox in /usr/bin...
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 22 2006-11-10 10:16 firefox -> ../lib/firefox/firefox

Anyone any ideas how to fix this

Using MOZ_NO_REMOTE=1 was what the guys at MozillaZine suggested, and what worked for me. I'm not sure what it does, though. I know you need to use that to run both 1.5 and 2.0 at the same time.
